Leigh and John were such a pleasure to work with! They are naturals in front of the camera…from the moment we began, I could immediately tell how in love they are and whatever “awkwardness” Leigh warned me about(so not true haha!) quickly faded! I absolutely loved walking around Maymont with these two and photographing their engagement session. It was hot but they were troopers! 🙂 And I’m sure they enjoyed their margaritas after our session haha!

Manic Monday | Photography Business Goals

08.03.2015

Phew! What a busy week it was last week! I am working through all of the sessions and weddings I have done in the last couple of weeks and am working hard to get all of my goals accomplished! I am also hoping that we are finally in the clear with all of the sickness we have had in our home over the last month….its been exhausting taking the kids to the doctors numerous times and giving medication around the clock for weeks! We have a few more days of meds and then I am praying we are in the clear for the rest of the summer! 🙂 Aside from that, we managed to have a pretty good week last week. I took a day off and the kids and I went to Maymont for a few hours, took a paddle board out for a bit and got milkshakes from The Dairy Bar! Even though it rained most of the time we were outside, it was still fun to get out of the house and DO something! I feel like we have all been cooped up in the house for most of the summer…partly due to my working and partly due to them being sick.

It is SO hard balancing this crazy life sometimes….I know I have said it before, but being a full time business owner, raising two kids and taking care of a house is a lot of work! I have been contemplating outsourcing a few things from my business just because I cant keep up with everything. I am a one-woman show right now and if I focus on my business solely, then my relationship and time with the kids doesnt get the attention it needs and that isnt fair to them….after all, what is the point of “working from home” if I am never there for my kids??? We will see though! It is difficult for me to think of giving up some of my business and letting someone else take on that task. I know I am far from perfect when it comes to running my business, BUT I am in control of everything and that gives me a sense of security! 🙂

Anyway! I am looking forward to this weekend because we are going to the river with some friends! Yay! We havent been away all summer yet, so this will be our mini getaway before our vacation at the end of this month! Im going to work my butt off so I can RELAX!!!

Manic Monday | Business Goals

Monday again…..well Tuesday now because I didnt get this post out in time! I cant believe how quickly the summer is going by! Why do the days seem to crawl by so slowly but the weeks and months fly! We are about to go into August and I am a little nervous about the school year starting! Kaleigh will be at a brand new school and that is intimidating! I have gotten to know the halls and staff at RPES over the last 6 years so the thought of beginning a new school is a bit scary! I cant imagine how Kaleigh must feel, although I think her emotions are more on the happy side haha! And my baby Carter(not so much a baby anymore!) will be going into second grade. He loves school, not only for the friendships, but he genuinely likes learning new things. And he doesnt mind the homework….I say that now haha! Thinking about them going back makes me sad…I know how frustrating it can be when they are home, but I really have enjoyed the company and I miss them when they are not here. Working from home is a very lonely job. 🙁 And as I write this, the house is SO quiet(the kids spent the night at their grandparent’s last night because I have a shoot this morning) so remembering the school days and working from home alone makes me lonely again!

Anyway! Im not going to do a recap from last week…I honestly cant even remember what we did, but the kids had fun(bowling, putt putt, icecream, sleepovers, swimming, birthday party, etc) so I’d say they had a great week! On the downside, Carter has swimmers ear in both ears and Kaleigh will be going to the doctor shortly for the same thing or a possible ear infection, we will see! I have spent the last four weeks in and out of doctor’s offices and I am SICK of it! My wallet isnt too happy either! 🙁

On a happy note, I’ve got a lot of great things coming to the blog soon…..here is a little sneak peek from Patricia and Jon’s wedding and then the goals! Seth and Kara Married! | John Marshall Hotel Richmond, VA Wedding Photographer

Seth and Kara’s wedding day was absolutely beautiful! It was sunny and warm and I was looking forward to the fun places we were going to do their portraits! They both seemed so relaxed, although I am sure they felt a little differently inside! Their ceremony was sweet and friends and family welcomed them to their informal reception afterwards. Unfortunately, it began to rain and we were worried about the rain spoiling our plans for outdoor photos, but thankfully, the sun decided to come out and we were able to take the bridal party and Seth and Kara’s portraits before the rain came back! They ended the night at the John Marshall Hotel in Richmond with surrounded by close friends and family.

A little bit of history with Seth and Kara! They met playing in the Richmond City softball league in May of 2014 where they played for Needles Eye Ministries. They were both new to the softball team and to Needles Eye Ministries and were also both looking for new friends and a community. They got to know each other on the field and their first date was in June of 2014.

Seth and Kara were engaged on Belle Isle on March 22, 2015. Seth proposed on Kara’s favorite bench on the island…..his proposal was a surprise as she was expecting the two to go on a trail walk on Buttermilk Trail, not on Belle Isle!

They chose to get married at Redeemer Lutheran Church, where Seth works as a pastor. Their shared faith in Jesus Christ is really important to them as individuals and also the foundation for them as a couple. Therefore, it was really important for us to keep our focus on Jesus Christ during the ceremony and then to also celebrate, dance, eat, and have fun with family and friends following. What more of a perfect way for Seth and Kara to begin their marriage than with Christ, family and friends together!

Manic Monday | Photography Business Goals

Another Monday morning has come! I hope everyone had a nice weekend! It was definitely a hot weekend…thankfully, we were surrounded by a pool most of the weekend….well, the kids were anyway! I had a rare weekend off(yay!) and our kiddos stayed at their cousin’s house of the weekend, so Jay and I had TWO days kid-free. This is even more rare haha! We made sure to make the best of it so Friday we went to Escape Room with another couple and then out for dinner and drinks at Rock Bottom after. If you like good beer and good food, you must check out Rock Bottom! As for Escape Room, I had never heard of this until our friends told us about it and its pretty cool! Essentially, they have four different rooms in which you must “escape” by solving different clues. You have an hour to solve the clues and free yourself. We did the “Mind Trap” room and I have to say, it was really fun! Its nothing like I have ever done and so glad we tried it out! Saturday, we met up with another couple at COTU for a couple of hours before heading out to the shooting range and dinner with one of Jay’s co-workers and wife. This was my second time at the range and I loved it even more than the first time! My hand is still sore haha, but I felt a lot more comfortable with everything and have a pretty good aim! We had dinner at The Mill and it was AMAZING!! I cant believe we havent heard of this place sooner! I want to go back already haha! We had the mussels for an app and I had the pork chop special(so flavorful!) and Jay had the steak special. I am excited we have a new restaurant to go to on date nights! Its been a long time since we have found a restaurant that we love and isnt too expensive! 🙂 Yesterday we took it easy and did some cleaning before picking up the kids and then we spent the rest of the afternoon and evening at a boy scout picnic pool party to plan for the upcoming year! It was a really fun “adult” weekend–I am still kind of in shock that we got two days to ourselves! I feel a little selfish, but I honestly cant even remember the last time we had more than an evening away from the kids so it was well earned! 🙂 And, these next few weeks are going to be really busy for me so it was nice to have a break before the craziness begins! Below is a recap from Carter’s adventures at Boy Scout camp….Jay spent the weekend with him so they are all iPhone pictures! 🙂
