Happy Holiday!  If you are a mommy with kids in school, today is a holiday!  This is an extension of our long weekend getaway to Massanutten so today we are going to roller skating with Kaleigh’s girl scout troop!  After, she is going to a friend’s house for a play date and Carter is going to Rick’s house because I have a client meeting!  That will pretty much sum up our day!  Ive got a lot of catching up to do being away from home this weekend so I will have week full of cleaning, emailing, and unpacking!  The kids also have a TON of activities going on this week(play dates, two girl scout outings, gymnastics, piano, a birthday party, and then we leave for the Great Wolf Lodge on Sunday!)  I am not sure how I am going to make it through this week lol, but somehow I will manage!

This weekend we had a blast going on our annual weekend getaway to Massanutten.  We left Thursday afternoon and thought we were heading to snow….unfortunately, it was the exact opposite!  The kids missed their first snow and we were disappointed but we still managed to have a good time!  Thursday evening we hung out at the room at the kids had a great time taking a bubble bath in the HUGE jacuzzi!  Friday we played putt putt(two full rounds!), ping pong, took a hike, went swimming, ate pizza and watched movies!  Kaleigh and Carter really enjoyed playing putt putt together and no matter how many times it took Carter to get a shot in, his reaction was always overly excited!  I do think though that they had a better time breaking the ice in the ponds with their clubs than the game itself!  Ping pong was definitely challenging for both of them, but they tried hard!  We ended up spending most of the time in the racquetball room with the ping pong balls and paddles haha!  It was pretty entertaining hitting the little ball on the walls and trying to keep it off the ground.  🙂  The hike this year didnt last nearly as long as they normally do(we usually hike for about 2 hours) but we had a pretty full day and the kids wanted to go swimming so it was cut short.  I think the best part of the hike for them this year was the fact that they had hand warmers in their pockets!  So funny how the little things intrigue kids.  Saturday we went to Luray Caverns and tubing and Sunday we went to the arcade before heading home.  Luray is always nice because no matter how many times you have been there, the beauty is still breathtaking.  Surprisingly, Kaleigh and Carter have never been bored during the tour!  Kaleigh had her IPod out the entire time snapping photos and Carter was in his own little world of adventure.  They enjoyed hearing things about the caverns and had fun throwing in coins at the end.  This year, Kaleigh took home a beautiful……..and Carter collected a bag full of shiny rocks.  Both were pleased with their purchases!  🙂  We did tubing this year at night because we knew it would be a lot faster and it was so much FUN! It wasnt snow…it was ice and we all had a great time.  The only downside is that we only had about 6 turns in two hours…the lift is extremely slow.  I dont think that they would have last much longer, but I wish the lift didnt take 20 minutes to  up the hill!  Yesterday was  pretty lazy day..we unpacked, lounged and watched Sunday football!  Photos of our trip will be coming soon! 🙂

So, last week I told you that we went on a hike together as a family…I am finally getting around to the pictures so here they are!

If you havent read about it yet, Ive started what I am calling a 15 on 15 project!  Basically what this is is that one day out of the month Im going to take one photo an hour. 🙂  Since the kids’ day usually starts by 7 and ends around 9ish, I figured doing 15 pictures a day would be plenty!  Of course, I always end up taking a few more, but I have tried to narrow them down as much as I can!  Then, on the 15th of every month I am going to post the photos!  I am really excited about this project and giving everyone a glimpse in a “day in our lives”  Anyone who would like to join me, PLEASE DO!  I would love to see your images, so feel free to post links on the blog! 🙂  If we could get 15 people to join, how awesome would that be?!?!

So, here is my very first 15 on 15!

Is it really Monday already?!?!  Weekends go by extremely fast lol!  But what a FUN weekend it was!  Even though the forecast called for sunny and warm, we embraced the cool, foggy weather.  I was so exhausted from the week(first full week back after holiday breaks for the kids) and getting back into the routine of everything drained me.  Friday we just relaxed and didnt do much of anything.  Saturday we did some light cleaning and then headed out for a hike through the woods.  It ended up being close to a 2 hour hike and we all had a great time getting outside and exploring.  After, we lounged around the house and watched a movie and that was our Saturday. 🙂  Sunday, Kaleigh had her gymnastics meet and she did AMAZING!  She got 1st on beam, a 4th, two 2nd places, and FIRST ALL-AROUND!  That is a HUGE deal!  I am so proud of her and the most important thing is that she had fun!  I was glad to see all the family who came out to watch and support her, and to celebrate, we all went out to eat after!  What a great way to end the weekend!

Last week’s goals and things Im looking forward to:

“Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it.”-Confucius

I pass by one of my favorite fields at least three times a week and the sight of it never gets old.  It is a simple field…filled with tall grasses and bare trees, but it is that simplicity of the field that makes it so beautiful.  The one word that comes to mind when I see it each time is stillness.  It is untouched by machines and grows beautiful wild, yellow flowers in the summer.  Beside it is a pretty dirt road and a wooden fence, making it the perfect little spot.

I shot these photos on Thursday and the owner of the field stopped by as I was taking the pictures….He knows me, as I have stopped by there often to admire the land and have asked to use the property as a session location.  He asked, “Whatcha takin’ pictures of now?”  I replied with a smile, “Just the field today.  Its so pretty!”  He said, “If you can find beauty in that, then more power to ya!”  It’s funny how our vision of beauty is so vastly different.
