I had the privilege of working with Henry and Chelsea on their wedding day this fall! Their day was magical and I absolutely love the color scheme and all of the beautiful details!

Henry writes, “I met Chelsea at a Chick-Fil-A. From the outside, it might not seem the most romantic of places…and you’d be right. But right away I knew that Chelsea was special. I worked in the kitchen at the time with my good friend Ben, and we prided ourselves on being the smartest people in the restaurant at any given time. We would routinely blow our coworkers’ minds with our high-brow, intellectual discussions in which we plumbed the depths of man’s darkest mysteries and most pressing questions.

Chelsea was not impressed.

Maybe it was the fact that she could stand toe-to-toe with me and Ben conversationally or maybe it was the fact that she would nerd out at the drop of a hat on any topic: as a connoisseur of Pokemon, Doctor Who, art history and nerdy-chic thick-framed glasses, she was a woman after my own heart.

After graduating from Virginia Tech I stayed to study for my Master’s degree. Chelsea commuted to Roanoke every day, working at the Taubman Museum of Art. After my I got my Master’s degree and Chelsea wrapped up her tenure at the Taubman, I got a job teaching at VMI and so we moved out to Lexington. Chelsea, naturally, followed me. She started working as a church secretary, but soon found more productive work as a graphic designer for a local print shop. The discussion of marriage sort of just…evolved naturally.”

Chelsea writes, “Our romance was an easy one, filled with hours of Lego video games, rocking out to 90’s music, and laughter. And the fact that Gillie, my cat, loved him didn’t hurt. Eventually “I” became “we” and the number of times I ate pizza in a month grew exponentially.

Henry’s proposal was perfectly sweet. He’d had the ring for several months when one day I was in Salem helping my mom clean her house. After a long day, I returned to Lexington to find Henry still (or already?) in his pjs. He greeted me at the door as he always does, with a big “CHELSEAAAAA!” and wrapped me in a big hug. We talked about the events of our day and then he lead me down the hall, where he got down on one knee like a gentleman and proposed. I was officially a taken woman and I’ve got to admit, it felt pretty good.”

“Married life so far has been fantastic! I still haven’t gotten over the little thrill of pride whenever I refer to Chelsea as ‘my wife.’ She’s been very busy going through the motions to change her name, and we’re also in the middle of negotiating our newly-jointed checking account. But so far everything’s gone smoothly. We are currently planning to take a honeymoon on my earliest extended break from work (maybe over Christmas!) but for the time being, our doted-upon cat, Gillie, is happy to have her mom and dad home after a long weekend away.

I think the biggest change about married life is that everything seems less stressful. Not that we don’t have stressors: marriage came with a whole new brand of those, like Chelsea changing her name, for instance. Maybe it’s just that we don’t have to plan for the wedding anymore…everything just seems like we have all the time in the world to get it done. It’s nice in that way. Everything is more relaxed, slower. Plus, with all the wedding gifts coming in the mail (Amazon registry is definitely the way to go!) every day feels like Christmas! We’ve seriously been doing full loads of dishes every day since the wedding with all the new kitchen things our kind friends and family purchased for us.”
